The two gold chains
GOLD is a 1 kg lot and GOLDM a 100 g lot, and both are quoted in rupees per 10 grams: a ₹1 move is worth ₹100 a GOLD lot and ₹10 a GOLDM lot. Each has its own option chain and its own open interest.
Gold's expiries don't map one-to-one onto its futures. On 27 October 2026 both the 30 October and the 27 November GOLD options were written on the December future, so two expiries shared one underlying. OIData shows each expiry's own future on its chain, and Dealer Positioning measures each expiry against it.
What moves the gold chain
MCX gold follows the international gold price in dollars and the rupee. The US data that moves interest rates — inflation, jobs and the Federal Reserve's decisions — is released in the Indian evening, so gold options often reprice after the equity market has closed, and India's own import duty changes move the domestic price directly.
MCX trades from 09:00 to 23:30, or to 23:55 while US clocks are on winter time (early November to mid-March), and on some equity holidays it opens for the evening session only. The gold chain is live for all of it.
Reading it on OIData
Beyond the chain itself, the IV term structure says whether the front expiry is dear or cheap against the next one. On 27 October 2026 the 30 October options were priced at about 24% ATM IV against 19% for 27 November — a backwardated curve, the front expiry carrying an event premium.
The Session Chart draws the December future's minute candles with per-strike OI beside the price, Trending OI shows whether calls or puts are building since 09:00, and the GEX screener's Commodities tab ranks gold against the other eight by net gamma.
